Hello everyone,

A new owner of a 2005 certified pre-owned Cayenne S (warranty covers until 2011), bought from Porsche dealer in Woodland Hills, CA.

Drove the car home and after a week of ownership I realized the CD changer plays songs slower and delivers static noise. The single CD plays fine from the head unit in front. I called the sales person and he says that may not be a warranty item. Is this true?

It will be a 30-mile drive to the dealer tomorrow for that fix, so I would really like to hear some of your thoughts before heading down there...

Many thanks, in advance.

Congratulations on your new purchase. I would think that your Porsche factory warranty would cover this item. Are you already out of that warranty and into the CPO coverage?

My 2004 Cayenne S is still covered by the standard 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty until October of this year. When I have used warranty service, they have covered everything without any questions - the only exception being what they considered normal wear items, like battery, brakes, etc.

Good luck!

Thanks Dennis. Yes, the car is still running its factory warranty. Over the phone the sales person was saying "oh, the CD changer may not be covered..." Not sure how certain he is by saying that. I am going to drop off the car this afternoon to the dealer, so will see what he is willing to do.

Andy,

How did this turn out?

I just bought a '05 Cayenne S CPO today, (also covered until 2011) so I wanted to hear first hand how good the coverage is.

My factory warranty is good until '09

Hi,

It was quite a disappointed experience with this dealer, especially the salesperson who kept lying to me that all the issues of the car were either fixed/repaired/checked. Very obviously, it appears that he only wanted me to drive 30 miles back to the dealer and pick up the car so he could call it a day, which half of the issues were not even checked.

Regarding your question, he told me the static noise and CDs from changer being played slower than the head unit, is NORMAL. I told him none of my other vehicles behave like this, and he said "On all Cayennes, CD changer plays with static noise and slower than the head unit." As much as I wanted to go further with him with this and other issues of the car (including a surprisingly unprofessional paint job on a lower door plastic panel, which I now whether find my own body shop to redo it all and pay out-of-pocket), I find he is one person who just won't listen carefully to customers' concerns. So, I decided to give up on him and will have to elevate my concerns elsewhere to voice my frustration.

Not sure where you are located, maybe you have better luck at your dealer. Please let us know.

If you want, I can PM/email you the list of issues I have and let you know what was fixed and what was not.

I might be mistaken but if a car has poorly repaired body work it becomes ineligible for Porsche Certified Pre Owned Status?

Not necessarily. There are many Porsches in the dealer lot that have issues on the body, and still be classified as CPO. They are used cars after all, so you'll need to be careful when examining the car before the purchase.

In my case, before the purchase I spotted a crack plastic molding at the bottom of the passenger door, they agreed they will order parts and replace it after the purchase. And, the job turned out to be a poorly done paint work, and of course, they keep saying it looks fine with them.

Your warranty and CPO are good at other Porsche dealers. It may be further out of your way, but it may be worth a service visit at another location. Form your own conclusions regarding the way the service department treated you in the Valley. I've certainly had different experiences getting my cars serviced at different locations.

Regardless, congrats on the purchase and enjoy in good health.

Thanks.

And, thanks for the suggestion, I definitely will go to another dealer for other warranty items (not the poor paint job though, since it is only good at that dealer where I purchased the car because they put it on the "due bill" at the time of purchase, so other dealers won't look into fixing the poor outcome).
