I've been having problems with my '04 boxster S 550 edition. For about 4 months there is a rattling sound on the wheels or suspension, the sound goes away whenever i brake though but as soon as i release the brake it comes back again! I've already changed the brake pads, vibration dampers and swaybar rubber mounts with no success.

After spending over $1000 in parts and labor, I'm back to square one. I was wondering if anyone has had the same problem before and could give me some idea what could be that noise b/c im about to sell the car because of this, i just don't enjoy driving it anymore, all I think about is this noise! Any suggestions???

Thanks

Replace the longerons ( with the uni ball ) left and right on the rear axle and your problem is solved on the rear, the front axle ones have an other design and are shorter, start with the rear ones.

Are you referring to the control arms? I couldn't find anything named longerons...!!! Thanks

Control arms is the right word.

I have a similar rattle on one side, did research previously, control arms indeed it is.

There is a thread somewhere on how to change them yourself, otherwise, pretty easy dealer fix.

I'll get to mine someday, buggin me a bit too.

Thanks a lot guys, I just bought one through ebay for $300, the dealer quoted me almost $600, I'm supposed to get it on friday, I will test it on the front and see if the noise goes away, if it does, i'll just replace the 4 of them....my car already has 30k mi. so they should need replacement soon anyway. Thanks again....

catgo

Start with the rear ones ( the long types ) they are a lot more fragile than the front ones.

I had the same problem on my 2003 Boxster S. It would make a bumping sound if I drove over a small bump or road irregularity at slow speed 25-35 miles/hr. I removed the offending trailing arm, it was the right rear one and used a small pin punch to tighten the bearing in the holder by putting dimples with the punch around the circumfence of the bearing where it had a roll crimp. This prevented the bearing to slide ever so little and create the bumping noise. I reinstalled the trailing arm and the problem was gone :clapping: . I subsecquently applied the same method to the left side trailing arm and no more noise on bumpy roads. The slide balljoint bearing is located where the trailing arm attaches to the frame behind the driver and passenger door opening. You may want to try this, the only cost involved is your time and you can then always by as new control arm.
