I did a search and there is varying opinion on what size to get. Yes, over squared tires can cause rubbing. Assume, it is not. If I got with a 15 mm spacer, will the rear be fine with an offset of 50mm? or do I need more ?

You need to get under (or preferably, next to) your car and measure the clearance from the tire to the strut at the closest point.

I would suggest a 20mm spacer. That will put the inside of the new wheel 1/4" closer to the strut than stock, and the outside of the wheel 3/4" closer to the fender lip than stock.

I have 12's on the back and 8's in the front. From what I understand, over 20 puts undue strain on the bearings. An “S” has 5's all around (I think).

As far as I know and for what its worth the widest Porsche ever used recently were 20's on a 944s.

my wheels are 10" ET65mm. i run 21mm spacers & have run tires up to 285 wide with no problems. i've heard of wheel bearing concern but have personally never had a rear wheel bearing fail in 130k miles of driving (much of it on a race track). my front tires are 7.5" with no spacers and they fail all the time (probably more to do w/ heat from the brakes on track than anything else).

I just received the OEM 17mm from Sunset import. Now I have about 2mm of clearance from the struts.

I chalked the wheel and drove round the block and there is no evidence of rubbing..

Where did you get the 20mm spacers from?

i found a set of used 21mm's on ebay. here's some now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Porsche-Whe...sspagenameZWDVW

just do a search for porsche wheel spacers. 944's, 968's, 996, 997, 993, 964, etc all have the same bolt pattern (5x130mm). just make sure to get hubcentric versions.
