strange things happening w/onboard computer

I have a couple of questions,

The other day I was driving the car to New Orleans and during the drive the oil gauge dropped to zero for only a few seconds and the OBC showed insrtument failure and showed the oil can. It did this twice on the way to New orleans and once on the way back home. Everything has been operating normally since. My ? is, is the gauge failing? do these tend to have problems or am I having an oiling problem w/the car? BTW using the oild dipstick the oil is where it should be.

2nd ?, today I tried to get a oil level reading and the OBC said thet it could not get a reading since the engine was not warm, but I had been driving for quite some time and the gauge was reading around 190 IIRC. Could these problems be battery related or am I having other issues. I have read that if the battery is not basically putting out exactly like it should you end up having little electronic issues.

If it is just the oil pressure gauge/reading then it is likely the sender (sensor). I would check that first.

If you had a plethora of electrical problems I would suspect the ignition switch. But as I said start with the sender and its wiring connection.

If it is the sender would that fix both problems? or is there something else causing the OBC not to be able to take the oil level reading.

It gets the readings from the one sensor - so I would suspect both would be off if the sensor or wiring were bad.

Well that was my next question. On my 88' the oil pressure runs approximately 1 bar above the RPM I am running (for example if the car is running 3000 rpm the oil pressure will read approximately 4 bar. On the GT3 once I begin to accelerate it runs @ nearly 5 BAR and right @ 5 if I am running the RPM's up higher (is this normal)?

On another note, yesterday I waited until the car cooled off so I could get my arm back to the oil sender connection and was able to remove and replug in the wire connection. I was then able to get an oil level reading after taking the car for a drive, and I have not had any issues w/the gauge since before the 1st post noting the problem. Must have just been a dirty or loose connection. (hopefully)
