I'm looking to replace the tires (205/50/17 and 255/40/17) on my 02 Box. A tire dealer recommended Michelin Riken Raptors. I've never heard of these; have seen good reviews on line, but nothing relating to Porsches. Smart choice?

Use Porsche recommended tyres, always a smart choice.

I wasn't sure about the these tires either, but I needed front tires really badly and tried them. They were smother then the dulops that were on there, probably because they were new. Six months later I needed rears to replace avons that were on there. What a difference. The avons were so loud I could not hear my cell on the freeway. Now with both the fronts and rears on the Boxster, I am happy with them. I don't drive super agressive, but they hold up well in the twisties. I would definately buy them again. Hope that helps.

You get what you pay for. In tires, going cheap isn't the wisest move. (my 2cents)

OHTA, Japan--Okamoto Industries Ltd. has sold its minority stake in Michelin Okamoto Tire Corp. to Groupe Michelin, giving the French firm 100-percent control of the company.

Okamoto owned 10 percent of the venture, in which Michelin has increased its share steadily over the years. Michelin paid $45.8 million for the remaining share. The deal includes rights to the Riken brand.

Thanks! I think I'll pass on these and get something from Tire Rack.
