Firewall threading and speaker wiring.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, i know lots have been discussed on speaker replacement and aftermarket head units etc. but I am having a few problems.

1. Has anyone wired their door speakers without using the stock wiring? If yes, how was this done? Most forum members seem to reusue the flimsy stock wiring.

2. I bought a new head unit and not sure how to wire it to the stock harness. I heard that I can use a VW harness but any idea which one? I bought a Scosche one for a 1997-2002 996 and it doesnt work. I am open to hard wiring it to the stock wires if I need to but not sure about the stock wiring diagram.

3. Where and how do you guys run the power wires and speakers cables to the front trunk? Drill a hole in the firewall? If yes, is there a certain location that is good and safe?

I am plannning on powering 6.5's in the doors and 4 inch coaxes in the dashes and two 8's behind the seats with 1 JL 5 channel amp.

Thanks guys

I retrofitted door speakers to my car which only had the base audio pack.

Its a pain in the hoop. The way I did it was to feed the speaker wire through the existing cable tidy from inside the cabin, enlarge the hole in the connector and feed it through both sets of connectors (instead or using the pins which Porsche says you should in it technical bulletin) and feed the wires again up through the cable tidy into the doors. It does mean, however, if they want to take the door off, the speaker wire needs to be pulled all the way back through.

To get the wires through the firewall, there is a rubber grommet just behind the battery that you can pierce and feed the wires through there. Make sure to seal it up again using some silicone sealant or you might get wet feet!

Thanks Davej, I found the rubber grommet behind the battery and have threaded everything thorugh it. I havent tackled threading 12 gauge too the doors yet though.

fu03steve, i am stuck on how to wire up my Sony CDX-GT-610UI to the stock harness right now. Its got three sets of RCAs, 4 channel amp and of course all the other wires. I am not going to use the power from the deck for the speakers as I am using a JL Audio 5 channel amp.

I want to run 2x25 to the dash speakers, 2x100 to the doors and 1x250 to the subs.

I have the stock 97 stereo with CD210 player, CD changer and factor Nokia amp in the front.

I have already replaced the dash speakers and wired 16 gauge speaker wire to the front trunk housing the JL amp.

Any advice on how to connect up the new Sony head unit? I would also like to use the facory door speakers powered by the JL audio amp until I have time to retrofit new 6.5's in the doors. Can I use the wires from the harness that came off the nokia amp for the door speakers? If yes, which ones?

Thanks for any help.

on the back of old cr220 bottom socket A #4 is your constant hot #7 is your switched hot # 8 is the ground.

You will also need a RCA cable + remote wire for your JBL AMP. great amplifier by the way.

cut the wires off of old NOkia then you will need to use some butt splicers to connect to JBL
