Started up for the Spring, and had CEL light. Porsche advised CEL would go away after (3) driving sessions of over 20minutes. During the first driving session, the CEL flashed and beeped once every 20 minutes. Called Porsche, they came and towed Cayman away for service! Only 2400 kms!!! Engine was running rough in the 1500 to 2500 RPM range, but ran smooth over 3000 RPM, but chugged with a slight rocking feeling during idle...appeared to be misfiring, but I'm not an expert. Anyone with CAT conv. problems on a 2006 Cayman S?

I had a CAT CEL on my 06 CS a couple of months ago (don't remember the specific code off-hand). The service dept. had to replace the left side header cat. From my observation, there have been sporadic reports of Cat problems on 06's.

However, I don't remember it affecting the engine at all (in fact, I still drove the car for a few days while waiting for the replacement Cat to come in). If you are getting some engine misfiring, I'm not sure that would be related to a cat problem.

Yup, I got the same error message with about 12K miles. The light actually went off on its own before I got it back to the dealer. No problems with the car running well though. The dealer diagnosed a CAT problem and replaced both CATs under warrenty. The technician says this is a fairly common problem with the earlier CATs on these cars.

I would speak w the dealer and ask them to plug it into the computer. If they give you a hassle, try another dealer. I don't know what its like where you are but here the dealers go out of their way to get your service. Besides washing the car, they wll deliver it back home free or give me a loaner. I was even invited to the track!

Good luck

I have also seen upstream 02 sensors cause the CAT failure code in those cars as they will stop responding and start to mimic the voltage cycle of the downstream 02 making the DME think that the convertor is not opearting efficiently.

If the upstream O2 sensor fails how does it "mimic" the voltage cycle of the downstream O2??

What faults were stored in your DME?
