08 Cayenne S burning oil normal?

Have an 08 Cayenne S that's has burned through over 2 qts of oil in first 5k miles. Is this normal?? Dealer seems to think so, I've never owned a vehicle that ate through so much oil ever and am becoming increasingly concerned. I have to constantly clean my exhaust ports to wipe just to you can see the aluminum through all the black coming out of the pipes.

Based on other Threads about oil consumption, this appears within Porsche's spec's.

My 2005 Cayenne turbo (81000km) uses about 2 liters in 5000km - I've heard especially the turbo is an oil-eater. I'm using castrol 10W60 instead of prescribed 10W40 in Europe upon dealer recommendation.

Oil consumption can be initially higher (due to engine not yet ran in), so continue monitoring it

Roughly the same rate of consumption on my 04 turbo (51k mi) for oil. It was kinda scary at first, until you realize you have a LONG time until your next oil change. I'm beginning to like this approach - I just ordered a small box of oil wholesale, and keep a bottle of Mobil1 5w30 in the back (next to CDC) for my own convenience.

I have a 2 month old Cayenne S that I had to put in 2 quarts today, it only has 1500 Miles on it.

It seems weird that it uses so much oil in just 1500 miles. Thing is that the oil warning light came on less than 50 miles ago. I would have thought it would kick in sooner. Guess I will have to keep an eye out for it. My drive-in period ends today, so later on today will be the first time i floor it and keep it there ;)

Olso: I had power steering issues with it the day i drove it home from the dealer. The replaced the active steering module. My dash has a terrible rattle in in at highway speeds. On the plus side fuel consumption on mixed highway and city averages about 16.4 m/g

Because I live in Florida, and I've only seen temperatures here dip below 32F twice in the last 14 years.

3ball, yes, but you should at least use 5W40. You need the "40" side for the summer temps.

So is this what "running rich" means? I have black sut build up in my tailpipe as well. So this is "normal?"

Is it normal to have a little bit of smoke through the tailpipes when accelerating hard with the "PSM" off? I don't get it when I accelerate hard with the "PSM" on.

I have an '08 Cayenne S, bought new. Needed to add first quart at around 4800 miles. Had oil changed at 6K miles. Now at around 9K miles and down about 1/3 quart. Dealer said this is much less than normal oil consumption, and I should have expected to add a quart every 2K miles or so as typical. Maybe I'm just lucky. :) I do check oil level every few weeks.

This is pretty normal for me as well. I burn a quart every couple thousand miles. Just buy the big 5 quart bottle of 0W40 and keep it on hand. It's a little less than buying them one at a time.

I was also alarmed at first but after confirming no leaks I just got used to it.

I burn exactly 1 quart every 5k. Keep track of the oil consumption....comparing car to car doesn't tell much....but oil change to oil change will...As long as it's not increasing that's a good sign.

As for oil type.....stick with the 40....you went the opposite way....Hot temps require a higher number. This is probably also adding to your oil consumption.

Now to the black exhaust.....oil burning is a contributor....but so is running rich....If you have a lot of smoke, it might have a blue tint to it.....you might have a bad o2 or maf sensor.
