I've recently seen an ad for a 2005 C2S Launch Edition. Can someone please explain what was special(different) about this version?

My understanding of these cars are that they were driven buy a Porsche employee, for a limited amount of time. Or, they were the first cars brought to the USA, with pre-set options and colors. These cars were used by PCNA to let the dealerships learn about the cars and test drive them. Then they are sold to the public.

The Launch option code was a loaded 997 put together to splash the new 997 model release. They were not dealer demos or PCNA recycles, although Im sure you might find one that a dealer choose to take one for themselves, or that a PCNA member took.

I believe the 2005 997S launch cars were all black on black loaded cars with PCCB yellow caliper brakes, nav, sport chrono, sport adaptive seats etc etc. Most retailed for over of 100K. I have one ;)

Thanks for the info. I had not even heard the term "Launch Edition" until a couple of months ago when a friend bought a LE Mercedes. It came with a number of special options and finishes. When I saw the ad for the LE 997 I couldn't determine the "specialness". lol I think I get it now and it sounds like a very desirable vehicle. Thanks!

I would expect the chassis number to be within the first 50 cars and the press car option to be on the build sheet too. My 987S was one of the fisrst Boxster S versions built , it has the press car option and was originally registered to Porsche stuttgart with the registration plate S GO 1000.

I looked up my paperwork.

997 S 79,100.00

Black Full Leather 3,315.00

Navigation for PCM 2,070.00

Heated Seats 480.00

Bose Sound Pkg 1,390.00

Sport Chrono Plus 920.00

Self-Dimming Mirrors 385.00

PCCB 8,150.00

Adaptive Sport Seats 2,695.00

Freight 795.00

Total 99,300.00

There may have been a tip version also. Seem to remember they made a few. My Vin ended in 740252 so I think that should mean it was the 252nd car made in the 997 S run.
