Finding Reverse

I just bought a 2005 Boxster S. Could someone please tell me the proper way to put this car into reverse. I've been slamming the shifter all the way left and then up, and did find the reverse, though it felt a little weird. I felt the shifter "jump" over a point between the 1st position and the Reverse position as I was shifting. It felt as though I plowed through some sort of mechanical interlock. In other cars, I've had to lift up, push down, or pull a trigger on the shifter to get it into reverse. Please advise me if I'm doing it right.

If it is that hard to find reverse then perhaps the shifter cables are out of alignment.

Should be a little extra push to the left then up. It should go in easy and without any strange sounds, otherwise take it to your dealer.

Kalmah987, does your car have a short-shifter kit? If so, this makes more effort a requirement for shifting.

One thing I do, is I go into 1st gear just briefly, then more over to reverse. Then I know I am in the right spot.
