Well i wanted to see if the piston inside the boxsters Oil pump was ever redesigned/superseeded from its original design so i called my local porsche dealer and give them the part number 996.107.125.51

and he looks it up and says its been superseeded to 996.107.125.01 and continues to say its been redesigned and probably works better than the original design.... Now can anyone tell me what benifit one would get by switching out my old original oil pump piston with this newer design?

FYI it only costs 3 dollars at the dealer haha

Why should you change the oil pressure piston in a 986 ? It was only a noise problem in the 05 and 06 987, which M 96 engine is slightly different in detail than the 986 M 96.> MY 07 use the M 97 engine.

As RFM stated, I have not heard of this problem on the 986 only on the early 987 engines. I wouldn't fix what isn't broken.

Well i should have been more specific... Will replacing the old piston with the new one improve things such as Oil Pressure, Volume, Cold Starts? Thats really what i'd like to know.

A new set ( spring + piston ) can give a slight advantage in oil pressure for engines with high mileage, pure theoretically spoken at least. I wouldn't do it CJ.

Well my Boxster has about 122,000 miles on it so im genuinely interested in keeping the oil pressure and volume in tip top levels. I probably will be the guena pig for this one... I have to find a way to check my before and after oil pressures and since the boxster doesnt have a guage, anyone know what the best way to get these readings would be?
