fuel gauge calibration or filler solenoid issue?

Recommended Posts

I fill my 2000 996 Cab-4 up as far as I can but my gauge never hits full and Im only getting 220 miles before hitting the red "empty" light.

Searches on this site reveal a couple of possible issues. Either I might need my gauge recalibrated or maybe there is an issue with an electric vapor solenoid in my tank's filler neck (but I cant find a fuse for it).

Anybody else had this problem and fixed it any other way?

Thanks!

Did you you read the warning note in the Owners Manual?

I havent read the manual in awhile. Have I done something stupid? It wouldnt be the first time. I've definately let my tank get below 1/4 if that is what you mean.

Yes, because the C4, C4S, and TT have 4WD their gas tank sits across the axle (like a saddle bag). The smaller portion on the one side can not be measured - so, if you run the tank very low then you can get incorrect readings when you fill up.

The manual tells you how to correct the gauge/tank reading.

I've tried searching and can not find an answer. I do not have the manual (just got the car and no manual available) and tried reading the downloaded manuals with no luck being able to find out how to correct the gauge reading. Can someone please post what the manual says? I have an '01 C4 Cab. Thanks in advance...
