Sometimes, the fuel gauge reading on my 2001 Boxster S registers below Full although the tank is brimmed. The pointer goes up to 3/4 of the last 1/4 i.e. little below full. From then on as the tank is depleted the readings are correct. Any ideas please. Somebody suggested OBD calibration, others that the floater in the tank might be faulty.

Thanks

A simple question, do you have this problem with the key out of the ignition while filling as well ?

As a rule I don't remove the key. Do you think it could make a difference?

I tried your recommendation for 3 fillings and it worked fine. I hope it is the solution and not coincidence. Thanks!

With the key removed ( the lock makes a click sound ) all the power is shut off, if you leave the key in the ignition lock, there is power on the contact points in the lock next to the points" ignition on". After several start procedures during the years, there are residues of metal coming from the contact points on the " track" of the rotation disc inside the lock, which is always the same, and conduct a small amount of power just sufficient to disturb the reading.
