I have a little problem, the oil pressure gage on my 02 996 Targa will sometimes just drop off line then come right back up, it appears to be an elecrtical problem rather than mechanical, just wondering if anyone else has seen this, and also where the sending unit on the engine is located, in order to start troubleshooting this, or any other advice that would help.

thanks, George

Check the electrical connector (do a search here as this has been covered before). If the connector is in good shape then you likely need a new sender.

I just had mine replaced last week. Similar symptoms. I have an '03 and it's on the passenger side of the engine. See photo below.

BTW, if you turn on your ignition but not the engine, the oil pressure reading should be exactly at '0'. If not (mine showed 1 - 2 randomly), most likely it's the sender unit/bad connection. Note these connections are exposed and no rubber/plastic to protect them from the elements. GL.
