Head Lights

I have a 1999 Coupe with the Halogen lights. I got into a little fender bender and they had to replace one of my headlight Assembly's. It looks great but the bulb looks yellowish. The other one that it had was a white color. They said it takes about 100 hours to turn white like the older bulb. Is this true? Thanks

Thats what I thought.. What are the part numbers for the white bulbs and how much are they. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Ok I got the old bulb from my old headlight. The complete right headlight assembly was replaced. I put in the old bulb and its better but it still seems brighter. Is this because the balast is new?

Halogen bulbs have no balast, only HID lamps got it.

Sorry I put the wrong type of Light when i first posted. I have the litronic lights the ones that use the phillips bulbs.

It is normal that a new litronic lamp have a different color than one with, let say 1000 working hours. You can change the older one to have the same color or you have to live with the difference in color, its up to you. The life time is approx. 3.000 hours.

HID "bulbs" now come in a variety of "colors". Since human development has been primarily under our sun our eyes are more attuned, receptive, to 4300K.

Other colors are only to impress oncoming drivers who you will likely never meet.

yea whats strange though is that i put back both old bulbs and theres still a big difference. remember one entire lamp accembly was changed due to the accidient but i put the old bulbs in so they should match one thing i did notice is that the new headlight has alot of light around the ring wereas the old light has none. ill try to take some pics it will be easyier to show then explain

Sounds to me the other owner may have changed the bulb temps to a higher degre.

yes u do have a set balast for your HID system - High Intensity Discharge.

I would pull the other bulb out then try to match it exactly same.

Thanks for all your help guys.. Still havent figured it out. I put both old bulbs so its not a bulb mismatch the only thing that changed was the light assembly as it cracked when i had the accident. I attached the picture its a bad example but the left light is a yellow tint you cant notice in the pic as much as in person I took the picture with my phone. Its weird because both bulbs are the old ones they should match

One other point. Some of the newer HID assemblies have a UV rejection coating on the inside of the outer plastic lens/cover. But I don't know if the would result in a visible difference to the human eye.

the right hand one doesn't seem to be aligned to me the light seems to be hitting the reflecter thats round it where as the other one is going straight out HID lights colour changes depending on the angle they are viewed at i think

It may be the city light that is different. The litronics have a city light that turns on with the parking lights and with the actual headlights. If the bulbs are different, they may change the surrounding hue. Its my best guess. Turn the parking lights on and look at the front headlights. The city lights should be on and may look different to one another.

HID (aka Litronic from porsche) Lights does actually turn a little bit more yellowish after couple hundred hours of use., if you want them to match., change both bulbs ., you can get a set of d2s bulbs for around 40 dollars .. just get the 4.3k color temp if you want to have stock looking color
