Cannot lock Car!

Hi Guys,

When leaving the car at the station this morning, I pulled the keys out of the ignition and the central interior light didn't come on... I thought no big deal maybe it's acting up. Anyways, I leave the car and then try and use the key to lock it and nothing happens! I try my wife's key and get the same result. The light on the dash is flashing away when the key is pressed and if I lock the driver’s door only the driver’s door locks and the horn sounds to warn me that the passenger door is open.

If I sit in the car and use the central locking button on the dash all doors lock and unlock as normal... I just cannot lock the car from the outside!

I've now left the car at the station with only the driver’s door locked as I had no option (work and all!).

Also, while I remember, I tried to put the key in the ignition after first trying to lock and unlock the doors with the key and it wouldn't go in... is this all related to a ignition fault which seems to be a common fault on the 996 (by reading the threads on this forum)?

I'm going to be going to the local Porsche Indi later today to try and get this sorted but I was hoping someone out there in Renntech land may be able to help.

Sounds like ECU for alarm/immoboliser is playing up.........

Getting the key ito the ignition might be an ignition switch fault. The locking problem sounds like it might be a bad door microswitch, but a fault should be logged to confirm what the problem is.

As a stopgap, try the emergency locking procedure - turn the key in the door to the lock position and back 3 times in quick succession.

Ah, reading it again, your ignition is playing up me thinks. It thinks the key is still in (hence no interior light came on when you removed it and wont therefore lock the car)??

any updates with the problem? Im having the same problem.

except my hood and turnk are also locked. Interior dome lights are not working, and only driverside door is locking

Folks you rally need to put the Durametric software, a PST2 or PIWIS tester on the car to find alarm system faults.

Could be a bad ignition switch or a failing alarm control box - you won't know until you run the tests and look at the fault codes.
