I thought that this reminder to get service was based on 2 years or 30,000km which ever came first?

I took delivery of my car late October of 2006, I now have 17,900kms on the clock so I am not even close

to either limit. (It appeared on March 08).

Could this have been triggered when the dealer took delivery of the car?

Can it be reset to come back at the appropriate date?

Can it be ignored?

My dealer reset mine (prior to showing) this past fall when it was in for its yearly oil change and brake fluid flush (done a little early).

I figured that the dealer can reset it but what starts the timer running, obviously not me taking delivery?

I just changed my oil 1000km ago and I am not about to give the dealer $350 for an 'unneeded' oil change...

Maybe I should just ask them to reset the message? (although they may decline or charge for this!)

Your dealer can delete the service reminder out of the program if you want.

I dropped by the dealer after lunch and made the request for them to clear the message.

After speaking to 2 service advisors and explaining to the "kids", (sorry young people) that a 987 is not a 986 and that the service intervals are different, and that no I didn't want a $200 1 year inspection while I was there, just the message reset... They left to ask a tech to squeeze the job in!

I waited about 15 minutes by my car and a tech I know from my 986 owenership days appear, we chatted, I told him about my DIY HID conversion, he smiled and said no problem, I'll reset the service reminder for you right now.

A few minutes later he returned with the car, we talked about how nice the 987 was and then I was on my way...

I am not looking forward to the 2 year service visit :o

P.S. No, I am not that old, they were just that young...
