Hello everyone,

i like to run in trackdays with my boxster s my03, but last week for three times in the same corner, a left

curve that i run in third gear with full open gas, for some seconds i can feel no power on my engine and i can see a lot of white smoke on the rear,

also the engine check light on. When i close the gas the smoke ends, check engine light off and the engine start to work normally.

after these three laps where i have the problem, all going well and i've finished the track session without problems.

Anyone has experienced this problem or have idea of what can be the cause?

Thanks a lot

i've had similar issues... some people run the oil a little lower, that makes me nervous. the bk oil sump extender helps but there is a much better one from mantis, it increases the oil capacity and has some additional baffling. the newest fix is an elusive "dual" air oil separator that you can order from porsche... i forget the part number... call up sunset porsche, they can track it down. it supposedly was developed for the factory porsche racecars to prevent the oil ingestion... it can be a pain to install but from the few people who've installed it they've had no issues... alas, i'm currently waiting on mine to arrive from germany.

I'm wondering if you ever figured this out. It does sound to me like an oil mist separator. You said you checked it out. For me, the way I confirmed this issue with my track-dedicated '04 986S was to see the inside of the intake. However, I experienced it everytime I pushed hard through the same left hander - so I had more oil visible in the intake - if you've only had it once, you may not have as much to see.

Your symptoms match an overwhelmed separator - the CEL and sluggishness is caused by the oil temporarily fouling the plugs. If you do a code read, I bet you will see a misfire in cylinder 5 and 6.

I've had this exact same problem on the track, as has a buddy of mine with an identical 986. Both of us are upgrading to the PMNA separator. Mine was delivered last week. It is about twice the size of the stock one. Hope to install before my next trip to Barber in Sept, which is one of the tracks where I get this issue.
