Just wanted everyone to see the way I dealt with adding a cupholder to the 996. Mine is much more stable than the factory. Of course it doesn't look as nice and is partially more permanent. I haven't finished it yet as I am trying to figure out if I just want to paint it or cover in vinyl. I can't find the exact color match for my Savannah Beige but found if I paint it black then mist a light coat of honey it gets pretty close. Please be kind to my first attempts at fiberglassing.

That looks great! Also, a few days ago I saw a post where the manufacture of Porsche leather was posted, so if you can find that, you could color match it perfectly.

You should consider posting a DIY. I can't be too different to do something similar in a Boxster.

Thanks, seeu. I had actually considered that but realized that it would be underneath my leg or all the way on the passenger side. Not at all easy to get to. I had placed something similar to that on the door (I have pockets and no speakers) so it would sit well there. However, I found in getting out of the car my foot would always kick my coffee mug and possibly spill some. The piece I made is very solid and will hold a coke under pretty extreme side loadings.

These guys do a pretty much exact match leather dye for savannah (and supposedly for any other porsche leather colour as well). I don't know how well the leather dye would go onto the fibre glass, but it worked brilliantly touching up my leather. You literally can't tell the difference between the original colour and the touched up section.

Nice cup holder, but if you're short and have to move the seat up close....the cup holder doesn't work out so nice. It will get in the way of the seat. Nearly got one, but ended up going through the entire OEM cup holder mod.

I've got my seat moved almost all the way forward with the ultimate cupholder. It's sitting a hair off-kilter, but still works great.

I like that. I was working on another project when I realized that a 1" x 2" board fits perfectly into the 996 ashtray, so I cut one to the correct length and screwed a cheap cupholder onto it. It fits tight enough to handle coke cans and coffee cups, but big gulps are too top heavy. I can slide it in and out of the ashtray at any time. I don't have a photo of the wood base, but I'll take one later. It would probably work even nicer if I sanded down the wood block a bit and glued some rubber over it, but I haven't bothered yet.

I tried one of those JE. My coffee mug just fell out one day. So got rid of that plus it is in my way. Zoomsan I have had the seat moved all the way forward and this does not contact it. I made sure of that when constructing it. I do give a guy at work a ride home every day and he is about 6'2" and 230 lbs. It limits his left leg a little bit but I don't really care. He just has to suffer so I can have my morning coffee. Danyol I don't have a DIY on this. Basically, I took my coffee mug, wrapped it in aluminum foil. Then use fiberglass to create the base of the cup holder. Then I took the vinyl off of the side piece, cleaned it up very good. Then using foam board and hot melt glue created the bridge between the round cupholder and the side panel of the car. Finally, I used body filler to fill in the gaps and smooth it out. I am at the point now of considering on whether I want it covered in leather to make it look better.
