Can anyone share some knowledge in regards to muffles? I have a speed yellow 04 boxster and was wondering which muffler would be the best choice since there are several brands out there. Thanks in advance.

A lot of them don't do a d_mn thing for horsepower from what I understand, some make it worse. There are cheap dyi mods that will make all the racket you want...see Pedro At Pedro garage or find hm on PPBB.

I don't think you'll get gas economy out of anything. The GHL is good for light weight and performance, but you will get a lot of sound (and resonance)--too much for me. There aren't many (any) lightweight mufflers out there that will not increase resonance substantially. In order to get rid of the resonance, you seem to need a lot of baffles and pipes which means a "full-sized" muffler. Others that give you some sound and performance, but no significant weight savings (about 2lbs) include Dansk and Remus. The Dansk is definitely a "little" sound, barely more than stock. The Remus is a middle amount of sound and a little resonance that doesn't drone you out. The Porsche Sports Exhaust is not supposed to drone and has a nice sound, but it is very expensive (2X) and adds almost 10lbs. There are others like Ruf that are too expensive to have been reported on. Others like Borla are of the lightweight variety and have been reported to have too much resonance.

Hey,

Just to tip my hat in. I have a Stebro sports exhaust. Its smaller and lighter than stock but definitely a bit "boomy" between 2k-3k rpm. It is a well made product and the customer support from Stebro (so far) has been flawless IMO. It is slightly to loud for my ears and as i drive it every day right in the middle of the 2-3 deafening zone i am considering taking it off. The reason i haven't is that it sounds sooooo good when you get above 3k.

My wife's 2002 S was bumped from behind just enough to punch the OEM tailpipes into the muffler, so the offending party's insurance company had to pay for a new muffler, which would be $549 for the Porsche OEM.....

after looking around, I ordered the Dansk Sport unit that offers 3 different tips. My wife did not want to add much sound to the OEM, and that's what she got. I was very disappointed that the grunt was not more than the OEM, but the tips look fantastic. exactly like the Porsche Sport Exhaust tips.....the muffler was $850, so we paid $300 out of our pocket.

A very nice look, but no additional sound from the exhaust over stock..

some told us that after a few thousand miles the system would settle in and would increase in volume....after 5k miles...still nothing. <_<

Nah. It's not going to happen. As I noted, the Dansk pressed is only a teensy louder than stock. On my Remus, it got louder than when new, but it only took about 5 miles up to 50 miles max to settle in. Glad you like the look, though.
