Here's an odd one. My horn works perfectly except when the engine is running.

I have a 2001 2.7L 5 speed boxster with 125k+.

In the last few months before the horn went out completely, it was intermittent. Now the only time it works is when the engine is off (not very useful).

I think I will replace the relay when I get a chance just because those are always suspect and are cheap. Are there any other, more educated suggestions?

Is it a case off when your motor is running or when the key is in the run position? Is there anything else that only works with the engine off?

Do a search on here, another poster had a very similar problem but I have forgotten what the solution was. I could not find the post in my attempt to search, if I turn it up, I will post the link.

My problem was a broken ground wire for the horn. When the car was off, the horn found a ground, but when the car was on, the ground went away. There is a discussion of what caused the problem in one of the posts linked to above. The ground wire was broken inside the insulation where the wire makes a 90 degree bend off of the connection in the steering wheel. John

Thanks everyone. I will check out the ground wire this weekend hopefully. That sounds like it, and if it's not, I have all those pages and pages of posts to reference (thanks for digging those up, Tool Pants).
