I have just bought a UK Spec car. C2 996 2002 with PCM. I have no idea how to upgrade the rubbish and out of date maps etc on the system. No doubt new discs will do it, but is version 2.1 compatable?

Help much appreciated as to what I should be doing.

Many thanks,

Parkeni

No - PCM2.1 disks aren't compatible as they are DVD based, and your system is CD based.

If your car was built before September 2002 then you have PCM1 16 bit version, and the good news is that you can get up to date maps for the UK and Europe. These are converted GM/Opel maps - see www.satnavshop.com. Speak to Gerard Mahoney, as he knows what he is talking about.

If the car was built after September 2002, then you have PCM2.0. The bad news is that the latest maps issued by Porsche are dated March 2006 (but the data is older than that) and they have abandoned releases of new maps. There are some chaps in the UK looking at a hybrid map for PCM2.0 but it is only in the ideas stage, so don't hold your breath.

According to my local Porsche dealer (Greece) they are expecting a new set of CD-based maps anytime now. This is going to be the first release since 2006. I am not sure how accurate this info is but I thought you might want to know. If someone can cross-check this with their local Porsche dealer it would be great.
