What is this?

This cable was tucked under the passenger headlight assembly, leads to the hood latch mechanism. If its an emergency lid opener, just how is someone supposed to access it? 2004 Turbo.

You reach behind the wheel liner on that side with a hook and pull it - emergency front hood release.

Right on, I couldn't find it referenced in the owner's manual............top secret for tow truck drivers and criminals?

It gets even worse. There is also an emergency release cable for the engine lid. See if you can spot it in this picture.

You are suppose to get to the front cable by reaching under the plastic fender liner. Problem is, the cable is not always where it is supposed to be.

Pull the headlight and you will find a place that you can stick the loop and still reach it from outside the car. Secure the cable in place with a piece of duct tape. You may even find the original pice of duct tape.

Yikes, I just had my rear fascia off for the spark plug change and did not see any such cable for the engine lid. Hope its still in the right place. I can't see it in your picture, where is it??

The rear cable is behind the left rear taillight.

Loren, where should I place the front cable before I put the front end pieces back on? Currently off the car are the fascia, forward wheelwell covers, center radiator gasket/shroud, side radiator ducts, bumper & energy absorbers. One hell of a radiator cleaning project!

You can either put it behind the front wheel well liner (like it was from the factory) or you can do what I did and put it behind the front bumper with a piece of fishing line tied to the end and the wrapped around the tow point plug. If I ever need to release mine - I just pop the tow plug out and pull the fishing line until I can pull the cable.

The choice is yours...

I did the same thing, except I used a thin black zip tie and affixed it to the loop in the cable, then stuffed it up in the rubber liner in the front bumper.....just a thin zip tie sticks out that I can pull on and drop down the cable.

Loren: you said the cable in the rear was behind the left rear light...but in that picture of the yellow car with the bumper off, I didn't see any cable. Do you have to take out the rear tail light to get to that cable?
