I have a 05 Cayenne that was originally a California vehicle that it's previous owner imported to Canada. As part of "Canadianizing" it it needed daytime running lights. This was accomoplished by having the lights (headlights and rear tail lights) turned on all the time that the car is running.

I wanted to turn this off and install just daytime lights, something like the Hella kit or similar.

So, how do I turn off the normal lights ?? The dealer is not helpful. Can I do with with the Durametric software? or is there a jumper somewhere, or ?????????????

I am pretty sure that needs to be re-programed with a PIWIS tester.

Thanks Loren.... forgive my lack of knowledge, a PIWIS tester is ???

PIWIS (Porsche Integrated Workshop Information System)

A special computer used by dealers and shops to program and test various control systems in Porsche cars.

A PIWIS costs about $18,000 for the first year of the lease and about $12,000 per year thereafter.... so only the larger shops have it.

My dealer Porsche of Spokane in WA frequently does the add or delete the DRLs for cars moving from Canada to the US. According to the tech it is a quick 5 min job with the OBDII and PIWIS tester.

I believe on post '05 models the day time running light has to be turned on in the front light control module using the PIWIS tester as other have stated.

I had my dealership activate this "day time running light" feature and it is a bit disappointing to say the least. It is basically the same lights that turn on when you turn your xenon headlights on at night. Usually, DRL are the inner most lights are used. I would've preferred the high beams used as DRL on low power (when headlights are off) until you turn on your headlights, in which case then it deactivates the DRL, restoring full power to the high beams.

I had a similar feature on my TL after installing a DRL module. It used the foglights on low power for the DRL until I turned on my healights.

So, the point of having daytime running lights is moot if the headlights are used as DRL, esp if they are XENON imo.
