My windscreen is being replaced next week due to stone chip. I inadvertenly said "yes" over the phone when asked if it the old screen had a rain sensor and didn't realise until several hours later.

Is this a problem, can it be "wired" to become functional without too much hassle or can the screen just be fitted without this facility enabled/

Thanks.

The rain sensor is a "stick-on" piece that is usually mounted near the mirror with wires going up in the trim around the windshield. So it really has nothing to do with the woindshield other than having to remove it and remount it if you have one.

I don't think that's true, but maybe someone else can confirm. In mine (996 TT) the rain sensor is integrated into the mirror mount. So, if your mirror mounts differently, it may be a problem.

Yes, it does mount above the mirror mount and the wires run into the upper console with the mirror wires (if you have self-dimming) - so they likely look like one.

From the Installation TSB...

"The rain sensor functions according to an optical principle. It is fastened to the inner side of the windshield near the interior mirror and mounted in the swept area of the windshield wiper. (Figure 1). The rain intensity is measured with infrared light, and the windshield wiper pause intervals are controlled automatically."
