My battery completely died over the summer due to no use of my 911. In the past I have just recharged or replaced the battery and everything was good. This year everything died. The odometer lost the millage and reset at 59999 , the radio will not come on and now I have the air bag light on. I asked my local independent Porsche service center and got the "never seen this before discussion".....but if you drove it more than 100 mies we can t reset it. Help?

I think you need someone with a PST2...

I live in Jupiter FL .....the odometer is at 599 999 not 999 999 ...plus also I lost the radio and the air bag light is now on. I guess this must be unusual . I think I have a top notch local repair service in Palm Beach.....Orbit ..but they say they have never seen this and I hate to experiment . They indicated that odometer have to be sometimes reset but that if you drive the car more than 100 miles it may not be possible. What then replace the odometer or reset it to zero ..neither seem reasonable.

They should test the cluster using a PST2.

It is possible that it got a voltage spike and is now ruined.

If you had over 62.14 miles on the odometer then it can not be reset by a dealer or PST2 (or PIWIS) tester. Only a certified speedometer shop could reset it.

Like I said I quest whether the cluster is fully functional - so it needs to be tested.

They can clear the airbag fault with a PST2 easily. You need to post the radio serial number in the "Lost Radio Code" thread and I will give you the best guess for your code.

The difference between 599,999 or 999,999 is if the display is in the miles or kilometers mode. My 999,999 picture is kilometers.

Put the key in the ignition. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Turn the key to position 1. Then tun the key to the off position. Then hook up the battery cable. The display should be back to normal. You may have to twist the knob to change between US and metric miles.

Give Loren your radio serial number so he can guess the code.

All that is left is the air bag light.

You had a low voltage problem. That is why the odometer display went funky and the radio lost the code. If I remember correctly there is a low voltage fault code for the air bag control unit. I had that fault when I had battery problems. I cannot remember if that will trigger the air bag warning light. I would just turn the light off with a PST2/PIWIS or Durametric and see if it comes back on.

THANKS IT WORKED!!!!!! The odometer and all the dash settings came back by disconnecting the negative cable as suggested. The radio has no power so I am after the fuse fix ...hopefully the radio will not have to come out. I have the card with the code ....shouldn t that work or is it rest set everytime it comes out? Then onto the airbag.
