GT3 Console Delete - Help

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I want to do the GT3 console delete in my '01 Boxster, but my AC Control Unit is mounted in the lower portion of the dash - the one that will be removed. I will have to place it in the cupholders spot.

Additionaly, I have the OEM heated seats...and the switches have to be relocated also.

Does anyone have instructions on how to remove the CupHolders and relocate the AC controls. How much skill is necessary for the entire MOD?

Thanks,

Gus

PS: I did find a PDF that gives general instructions on how to install the GT# delete kit, but the lucky guy didnt have the AC in the lower console!!!

I did the opposite. I added the cup holders and moved my A/C to the bottom.

It was really simple. One caveat. you may need to have the a/c brackets for the upper console.

1. pop off the front face plate of the cup holder (butter knife works well)

2. unscrew the cup holder assembly (4 screws on mine)

3. slide out cup holder assembly

4. remove the left and right brackets (mine pop out)

5. pop off face plate to a/c

6. unscrew a/c assembly (mine had 2 screws)

7. slide out a/c assembly part way

8. disconnect the 4 wire modules (they are different colors. I used a small flat-blade screw driver to press down on the top of the wire module to slide them out)

9. thread the a/c cables behind the lower console to the upper console. (this could be tricky, but just follow the cables and slowly slide them through.

10. put in the a/c brackets for the upper console (mine just snap in place)

11. slide in a/c assembly

12. connect wire modules

13. screw in a/c assembly

14. pop on the a/c face plate.

I hope that helps. Good Luck!!!

Thanks willcapp,

Do you have a part number for these upper console AC brackets?

Thanks,

Gustavo

actually, I do.

do you want to check to make sure that part number I gave you is going to work on your car.

the brackets came out of my '00 2.7L

let me know what you want to do. If you do want them, send me your address.

-Will

I have a '01 2.7L... Should fit like a glove...

I will PM you my adress and you can let me know how much the shipping is...I am willing to add something extra $$$ - at least for a beer...

Thanks,

Gustavo

Hi Loren,

The instructions on the TSB you recommended - very helpful BTW - mention the Boxster Technical Manuals Groups 6 and 7. Specifically - 68 17 19 and 70 18 37...

Do you know where I can find a copy of these instructions?

Thanks,

Gustavo

The B&M short shifter center console instructions are quite good for that part and the upper center console has been covered many many times here.

Hi Loren...

Is this the link you mentioned?

The pictures are quite good...But do you think I can find instructions on how to pop out the AC control unit (what tools do I use...etc) and how to secure it in the new place (where do I place the AC Unit brackets?)

It seems that the manual sections (Boxster Technical Manuals Groups 6/7) I mentioned above cover exactly what I am looking for:

68 17 19 - Removing and Installing the Center Console

70 18 37 - Disassembling and Assembling Instrument Pannel

Do you know how or if I can get a hold of these?

Thanks,

Gustavo

Um... you have to buy manuals. They were over $2000 when they were in print.

Hey Gus,

The brackets I'm sending you just "pop" in place. they just clip on the sides and allows you to then screw in the a/c assembly. I wish i took pics when I did mine, but believe me....it is VERY easy.

The brackets go on only one way. the cables just need to be pulled from back and routed to the top.

As Loren stated, it's been covered a lot here in the forums. Some one might have some pics.
