Hello, this is my first post on this forum, though I have read and found huge value form this forum.

I just purchased a 05 CS from the upper mid-west. On inspection of the underbody I was alarmed to see rust. Not only is rust on some of the suspension bolts, there is some on the structural steel and the rear differential (looks to be aluminum) is pitted. I do not think it is a serous issue yet, but I also want to stop the rust now.

So my questions are:

1. Does anybody else have rust? I was surprised to find a modern car, 3 years old, showing any signs of rust. I have purchased an Audi that was used for 4 years in upper NY with no signs of rust... I was surprised to see rust in my new ride.

2. What are your suggestions for stopping the rust? Doing a quick search, I found numerous products to remove rust, does anybody have any product suggestions?

3. Does Porsche have some type of Warranty for this type of thing. The car has 36K miles.

On a positive note... the CS is a great looking, driving and performing car... highly impressed. The interior, paint, functionality of the CS is nearly flawless. As suggested on the forum, I changed out the yellow side markers with clear, and added the aluminum look trim around the radio.... huge difference.. thanks for the tips.

Could you post any pics? It doesn't sound like anything out of the ordinary, what did the garage that did the inspection say about the rust??

I took it to the dealer who said the rust was normal. I purchased some rust inhibitor and will spray it on after I wash the bottom of the truck. As a side note, I still think the rust is excessive for any 2005 vehicle, especially a Porsche. You may want to inspect your Cayenne's underbody to look for and stop any rust before it becomes a problem.

Thanks,

Lance

Lance:

Is it possible the vehicle was used to tow a boat? More specifically, this sometimes happens when a vehicle is used to tow a boat and then to back the boat into the water by using a ramp that gradually floats the boat off the trailer while backing in. If there is more rust in the rear section of the underbody, as opposed to the front 1/3 or 2/3, then that is possibly the reason for more rust than normal.

There is an excellent line of products called "POR-15" that is used to treat and stop rust on cars that are being restored. In thirty years of trying everything under the sun, it's the only product I have found that appears to stop rust and that does not require extensive prep before applying. They have a website, if you want to take a look: www.por15.com

As WVicary said, photos would help to see if it's anything out of the ordinary.

Regards, Maurice.

The RUST is not acceptable. I would certainly post pictures (close ups) so that others can review. Looking forward to it... It would be sweet if you can post BEFORE and AFTER (the treatment).
