I bought a 2008 Cayenne S in August, and I have driven about 2600 miles now. At about 2000 miles the low oil warning light came on, and I needed to add in 2 quarts of oil.

Now after about 600 more miles, I topped it off this morning with about a quarter quart. Is this normal? So I guess it is using about 1 quart of oil per 1000 miles.

I also have a 2008 Cayenne S with same experience. I have been told that this is normal.

Thats pretty weird. I just hit 3000 on my Cayenne and did not get this. Hopefully this is not a sign its going to happen to me/

DFI engine Cayenne ( 08 ) have a slight oil consumption something between 07 Cayenne and Cayenne Turbo.

Fill up the engine next service with 5w - 50 Mobil 1, it will decrease the oil consumption.

Oil consumption has been around 1 liter per 750 miles of driving for me. Luckily, there's a relatively large oil capacity - but the caveat is: when the oil light comes on, buy 3+ liters of oil. You'll need it.

3ball, if you are waiting for the light to come, I would think you are waiting way toooo long!

I wonder if there is any correlation between oil consumption and proper engine break-in? I have owned many cars, and have never needed to add oil between oil changes.

I would have to say yes to this considering the reasoning behind the break-in period and what occurs when a new engine is fired up -although I have no idea if Porsche runs them before delivery or not...

All engines going flat out before they leave the engine factory to test on HP. The engines who leaves the factory, inclusive the factory rebuild, have the HP as announced or more never less.

Ask your dealer - they'll tell you that oil consuption is very common for Cayennes, especially S models and Turbos. I check mine every 1,500 miles or so, and in my case there is not any excessive consumption. Some do it, some don't.
