is it truth that on 2003 986 2.7 motronic 7.8 when in center rpm meter light the check engine warning may be yellow colored or red colored

someone told me that when it is engine problem the warning text (go to workshop) is red color and when is not engine but everything else the color of the text is yellow is it real?

loren do you know it?

thanks michael

i don't have an '03 with a 'fancy' display, i have a '97. i don't really know the answer to the question, but i can tell you that i have only seen one color for the displays on these cars and it is yellow. so i am guessing that the answer is NO, the text does not turn red when there is an engine problem vs a non-engine problem.

someone with an '03 may prove me wrong. ;)

I can't really make sense of your post but the CEL itself is a yellow light, flashes when it is a problem that could damage the cats same as the earlier cars.

Now the dot matrix display can be in red or yellow depending on the message.

To add to what Todd I think you only get the dot matrix display if the OBC is on.

From the MY03 Boxster Owner's Manual

dear friends i dont mean the instrument panel light

i mean the onboard computer warning

for example the seat belt warning is red colored

the check engine warning light for the misfire in cylinder 1 over 6000rpm fault code 300 and 301 is yellow colored on onboard computer warning

As we stated above, the CEL is a standard yellow, the OBC (dot matrix display) changes colour depending on the warning. The CEL, key in ignition, lights on etc, colour is yellow, the ABS waning, top open warning, seatbelt warning etc are all red.

i ask because i report a problem on a boxster 2.7 2003 model with 42000 in this forum with a problem codes p0300 p0301

total misfire and misfire on cylinder 1 when the car is on 6000rpm.. so when the car exceed the 6000 rpm the CEL light s yellow ok when rpm drops stop

so after a lot of times in official servise workspop and coil changed and spark plug too the problem stoped for 2 days but the third day when the car exceed the 6000 rpm the cel lit again but this time and the OPC light on yellow color warning to go to the office workshop.

after a day the opc stoped lighting and just kept the fault code in the ECU p0300 and 0301

i ask because someone told me that if OPC warning me for the misfire problem on cylider 1 it musted be red colored not yellow so the car he bel;ieves that not has cylinder or lifter problem but the problem is electrical any ideas thank you.

i forgot to say that ignition injector replacede too and O2 and other valves checked too

what this car has finnaly?
