How cam I make sure its PCM 2.1 not 2.0

Hi I want to buy PCM 2.1 for my 2008 cayenne v6

the shop is selling me for USD 2300 so I want to make sure it PCM 2.1

how can i make sure?

so far i know

1.PART No. for 2.1: 955.642.204.10

2.PCM 2.1 can play MP3 from a CD

3.Device with sighn "X" in the end of part number - means Rebuilded. Cost chirpper.

955.642.204.10 is PCM 2.1 Control Unit -- it has now been replaced with 955.642.204.11

What about the DVD Navigation Drive and rest of the installation hardware?

The cayenne is not in USA so I can't use the Navi system from PCM.

so 955.642.204.10 is the older version of PCM 2.1?

Old is a relative word - if you bought it new today (or had it replaced under warranty) you would get 955.642.204.11.

There is likely very little difference.

Does anyone know which year was PCM 2.0 discontinued?

I was told by someone what NOT all PCM 2.1 can play MP3 files...is that true?

I have a Boxster S 987 fev 2005 and experimenting more or less same issue . I d like to share with you my latest investigations and conlusions, might help.

My PCM do not read (yet I hope..) MP3 . A friend of mine, having exactly the same boxster could read MP3 and WMA after an upgrade . The upgrade was done with "PCM 2.1 Europe October 06 Nav DVD ". When I inserted this DVD in my boxster, the DVD was rejected with a message on the PCM : incompatible DVD . So we came to the conclusion that, I have a PCM 2.0 ( or 2.5, 1.0 , 0.5 who knows...???) and that there is a major change in the HW that make DVD incompatible.

One dealer, after a lot of time and investigation (thx to him) told me there is an upgrade path from PCM 2.0. He confirmed that this would make TMC works (which is also an issue) but was not sure about MP3. He is investigating with Stuttgard.

So for me PCM 2.0 was discontinued between fev 05 and July 05 (confirmed by Porsche : new model with new equipment arrive middel of the year) . PCM 2.1 can read MP3 after upgrade when necessary.

I still have this question : how can I be sure I have a PCM 2.0

Also how can I get the serial number of the PCM ?
