Is there a source of ignition switched power (for a V1 install) available in the center of the dash where the radio is, or down by the cubby area / heater seat switch panel in an 04 996 non-PCM? I'd like to avoid routing wires from the fuse box area.

thanks,

Simon

If you have the phone prep option (standard in US/Canada cars) you would have switched and unswitched power at the bottom of the front center console.

You don't have a location in your profile - so I can't tell...

I'll update my profile, but I'm in California driving a US car. What panel would I pull off and what would I be looking for cable or connector-wise?

thanks in advance for your help!

If you have a sunroof, there is a convenient source in the interior overhead light complex. The power to the sunroof can be used to supply a V1 detector without a long cord.

Thanks Loren,

Do I need to pull out the center console and and gear lever surround to get to this, or it there a way to get to this from the heated switch plate?

thanks, Simon

Hi Loren,

Any advice on removing this panel, or do I just grab it somewhere and pull hard? Don't want to break anything.

Also, do you know if the mute line mutes the radio when connected to ground or +12?

thanks!

You pull on the rear of the carpeted trim panel. Sometimes the connector is just sitting there. Sometimes you have to fish around for it. Starting in 2003 Porsche put tape on the end of the connector, like you see in the picture.

Ok, so I've finally gotten around to taking this panel off, but all I see is more carpet.... I can't see a way to find the phone prep connector. Help!

Ok, figured it out - the picture is from a UK car on the drivers side, and I was working on a US car.... Or the picture is reverse. Much easier on the driver's side. :)

Would the switched power from the phone have enough power to have an Ipod charger and an auxiliary outlet plugged in, not for anythiong major, but for a garmin nuvi or phone charger?

Thanks

yep, 7.5A fuse. I wired in another 12V outlet and my Valentine, placed the outlet at the back of the passenger footwell - very neat installation.
