battery maintainer

I plugged a battery maintainer into my cigarette lighter, but it wouldn't charge. I then got a voltmeter and found that my cigarette lighter is only powered when the key is in the accessories position.

I am in Australia, maybe this is why?

How old is your TT?? I believe the older models had this 'feature'. Mine is October 2001, and i use a maintainer with no problem. Maybe there is a 'trick' that Loren can give you to get round it?

Generally, only the lights and airbags wiring are different between US/Canada cars and RoW cars.

If I look at the schematic for 996TT it does not appear to have changed.

Perhaps a previous owner rewired it?

It is a late 2000 built MY01.

I knew it wasn't charging due to the status light on the charger. Which prompted me to check the lighter socket with a voltmeter - only has power when key is turned to ACC.

911TBO, OK my charger status light is red when charging, and then turns off automatically when fully charged.
