Hi just purchased a 1999 996 cab. The rear spoiler does not raise when reaching speeds over 75mph. I have noticed that the red warning led light comes on when starting indicating something about the rear spoiler however it does not stay lit up to indicate that something is wrong. Could it be that the rear spoiler has been manually disabled and I not know about it?

Also how can I raise the spoiler without reaching the required speeds. I have seen some with the spoiler in the up position with the car parked.

sorry for the silly question just purchased the car.....Thanks

Sup man......first off CONGRATS...and the red light always comes on when you start the car to indicate that your spoiler is functioning and then turns off. and look for a switch on the driver's side on the left, it should be by your left leg when your in the driver side....there is a manual switch which turns the spoiler up and down whenever you please. HAVE FUN DRIVING.

You can download the owners manual from the "Documents" section above, will answer all your questions on the subject. Also, there is someone in Ebay that sells the switch and a kit for the rear spoiler. Do a search here, you will find plenty of instructions and pictures to go along. Congrats on the new wheels.

Hi there and welcome.

Tail should lift at 74mph and lower at 39mph automatically.

But as has been said, you can manually lift/raise the tail using the footwell switch.

If You can raise/lower the spoiler using the footwell switch then its possible that there is a problem in the connector to

to the tail lift motor. its on the right hand side of the engine bay just behind the tail light. It's a strange looking connector

and it should be clipped onto the inner bodywork. clean the connection then refit it.

This worked for me.

You may also want to take a look at my tail switch mod. This mod parallels the switch in the dash.

hey everyone, I go back to part of the original question - does anyone know if there is a way to change the settings so that the rear spoiler operates at lower speeds? I'd like to see it come up at 45mph like the older 911s.

much appreciated...

following up on this question: I have a 2000 996 Cab. The rear spoiler was working fine until recently it isn't - the spoiler does not raise automatically and the manual footwell switch doesn't do anything. And the spoiler warning light stays on. I checked the fuse and it appears to be intact.

What's the best procedure to troubleshoot this issue? Likely culprits?

Thanks!

These units work by hydraulics, and it is not unusual for problems to be associated with low fluid levels in the system.  Do a search for posts about servicing this system and you will find out a lot more on the subject.
