Hi all need a bit of advice on whats up with my Boxster 2.5 98 model.

Was chenging my wheel this morning & a buzzing noise started up from the drivers side sill (inside of car) just down the side of the seat.

The sound is continuous so ive had to disconnect the battery incase it causes any damage.

Tried starting the car to see if it would go but the noise still is there , car idles very lumpy & will not idle just cuts out.

any advice would be most appreciated

Thanks

Matt

When you say always there, is that regardless of engine running?? Do you have electric seats?? My thought would be if its inside and you have electric seats, then the motor is 'buzzing'. However, if its only with the engine running and its lumpy etc, is it fuel pump??

Hi mate i thought it was the fuel pump to, the buzzing is continuous if the engines running or not , the car has electric seats but the sound is coming from under the bonnet & boot catch so wouldnt of thought it would be that.

Very strange not sure how to dismantle the trim to have a look behind the sill to check bit weird as since the noise started the car wont run as it should ..

Cheers

Matt:

Removing that trim is fairly straightforward. Do a search in this forum using the words "hood latch" or "hood locked" and you will find instructions.

Is the sound is coming from the engine compartment behind the seats?

If so, you can remove the engine access panel behind the seats and perhaps pinpoint the problem better.

The fuel pump is near the accelerator but on the other side of the firewall, in the fuel tank actually. It should run briefly to pressurize the system when you first turn on the ignition.

just not used to UK terms(boot catch?), LOL

It's coming from your arlarm module

dont even mess with the hood release!

sorry to tell U,but it is your alarm control module!

U think its coming from the hood release lever, because M535 is located right next to it(a few inches apart)!

OK Loren I fixed it.

I'm not sure if ur asking or telling but

Nope, alarm module is pretty big it will never fit under the lever, under the seat.

thanks mate cheers for that , so the alarm control module is located under the lever which you open the boot & bonnet

Thanks

Matt:

Here is a photo of the central alarm control module:

Note that the seat has been removed for this photo, and for reference, you can see the two levers at the bottom of the photo. (Click on the photo to blow it up).

On U.S. cars it is located under the left seat. Since you say that the buzzing is near the two latches that release the front hood ("bonnet") and the rear trunk lid ("boot"), then it is probably under the right seat. If you don't see it there, check under the left seat.

If u are removing the seat, try not to unplug the wiring hardness.

u should have enough wire slack to rest your seat out side.

The lever lock electro motor is located under the trim.

RFM , Hi mate thanks for that think you know what im on about the buzzings coming from under the trim .

where you pull the lever in the car to open the bonnet/boot .

What does this control i.e does it control anything to do with the engine as its not running as it shoul since this started making the noise ,

Checked all fuses this morning all are fine took it to the petrol to see if was anything to do with the fuel .

Didnt drive so well was lack of power & trying to cut out ,

The buzzing noise had gone on the start of the journey but as i was putting car back on the drive noise started up again but went off preety much straight away , Im able to to keep the battery on now as the noise isnt there now when cars not running.

Thanks

Matt

RFM is referring to the two solenoids that lock the front and rear latches when you lock the car.

I guess if one of these solenoids is bad it might make a buzzing sound.

Do you have battery troubles than. Bad battery's can hive you odd things like buzzing electrovalves and bad working engines, check this out befor you strip the car.

Hi mate the battery has been fine but could do with checking it like you say before stripping car , not sure the best way to check though as i cant take to a garage ..

All lights on dash are bright & starts first time just doesnt want to stay running on its own ..

Might clean the MAF sensor tommorow to see if that helps as well going to be a busy day !! .. Just have to be carefull with my plastic window with this cold weather we have round here dont want to crack it again ...

Thanks

Could you have had any water ingress which normally settles under the seats? This all sounds eerily like the components may have had a swim recently.

I suggest to replace all the coils for a good working engine regardless the other problems. Do what Pop recommend in his post to start with.
