On my '98 Boxster, the door latch on the driver's side no longer operates from the outside. (Luckily, the inside latch works, so I don't have to climb over the console and under the steering wheel!)

Anyway, I got the interior door panel off and managed to get my hand up inside, way up by the latch. The threaded rod that connects the exterior latch to the inboard latch mechanism had pulled loose from its mating part on the interior side.

I could tell by feel that the inboard side of the mechanism has a sliding collar that can be slid back to allow the outboard threaded rod to be inserted. Then, the collar can be slid forward to lock the threaded rod into place.

I put everything back together and life was good for about two weeks. Then, the threaded rod pulled out again.

Seems like I need one or two fresh parts, either the threaded side or the "receptical" side (or both) to fix this permanently.

Can either or both of these parts be replaced without magical tools, and if so, what are the part numbers? Or is there a simpler permanent fix?

A drawing of this mechanism and associated linkages would be *really cool* !!!

When I started Boxstering in 1999 there were complaints about the door release not working. Have not seen this in years as most were fixed under warranty. But it was the inside release - not the outside.

There are instructions on how to fix the inside release. Send me a direct email if you want a copy. Might help you figure out something. If it does not then we can figure out what parts you need for the outside release. Jeff
