Hi all,

Happy New Year to you. I have got a 996 C2 -2001 and intend to buy a steering wheel hub (25mm) to go with the original airbag sport steering wheel. What are the steps in removing the steering wheel and do I have to disconnect the battery (airbag?) to do so. What do I need to look out for?

I am also trying to find a solution to move the drivers seat a little bit further back. I am quite tall and could do with another 2cm. Has anyone moved the seat brackets in a 996 before? I remember the 993 had two more wholes in the floor. The 996 body doesn't seem to have these. I have quite a lot of space behind the seat (about 8cm)

Your comments are very much appreciated !

Many thanks

Elliotts:

Always, ALWAYS, disconnect the battery whenever working on or near the airbags. Also, be sure to wait at least one minute after disconnecting the battery AND pulling the key out of the ignition before starting any work in that area. As an additional precaution, be careful when handling the airbag and when you put it aside, always assume that it can go off so put it in a safe place (and out of the reach of anyone else, especially kids). There is a proper way to put them aside, and I believe they are supposed to be stored with the airbag facing up (perhaps someone else can verify this).

Here is a link to a site that includes steering wheel removal instructions (It's for a Boxster, but I believe it's the same or a very similar procedure): http://www.whiteson.org/boxster/mods/obc/obc.stalk.pdf

Regards, Maurice.

I agree the instructions are very good.

Does anybody know if, once you have disconnected the Battery, if there is any chance during Airbag removal or reassembly, that the Airbag warning light will trip (turn on) ? I'm told that if it does then only a Porsche dealer will be able to get the warning light turned off!

Thanks.
