944 Air conditioning.. common complaint?

Recommended Posts

So I'm looking purchasing a 1983 944. Like most of the 944's i've looked at, the A/C blower runs, but no cold air. These seems to be the common symptom, but I've not heard what the cause is. Is it mostly a freon leak, bad compressor, or what?

Mine didn't work either, until I replaced the $1.09 heater clip that controls the airflow mixer valve (located under the cover on on the left hand side of the HVAC blower assy in the right side of the drivers foot well, Could also need a recharge of freon, but the heater clip is an easier place to start to look if you want to buy it.

If you look under the dash on the right side of the drivers foot well, you will just be able to see the HVAC blower...

The rod that connects to the mixing valve will be dangling inside the cover you can just see (the cover is secured with 3 screws) but the rod will be hanging loose inside the cover and will be visible if you look at the lower opening

The other method to diagnose is if the heat never shuts off, even when the heat knob is all the way to cold....

just an idea....
