I recently purchased a 2004 CTT from a local dealer and immediately noticed a fault that when driving at highway speeds and giving moderate throttle as if to pass someone, there is shuddering and hesitation. After researching this, I came to find that the most likely culprit is the ignition coils. Again, this only happened at moderate throttle and at other times the vehicle is a dream to drive. I notified the dealer, who will take the car and repair under warranty next week. Subsequently, I took a trip to my parents (185 miles one-way) and the vehicle drove perfectly. Now, the vehicle has mad hesitation/misfire at startup and has popped a CEL! It drives ok (it'll maintain 65 mph) and I'm 185 miles from home, the nearest Porsche dealer is at least 65 miles away in the next city, it's Saturday, and I'm due back in DC tomorrow!

Can I limp this car back home (it's all highway)? This is my second Porsche and I absolutely love it, but I'm afraid of causing further damage or, at worst, being stranded if the computers decide to shut the vehicle down while driving. It's scheduled appointment is Tuesday and once home (if I can safely drive it), it won't be driven until it goes to the dealer.

Please help, any advice would be greatly appreciated. :o

If the CEL is on solid it is okay to drive. If the CEL is flashing the car should not be run (damage to the catalytic converters will occur).

Make sure the dealer sees TSB 6/07 2820 Bar Ignition Modules (Coils) dated Jul 5, 2007. It clearly specifies what is covered under warranty.

Loren, thanks so much for the information, very helpful. I'll nurse the vehicle home and look forward to getting it back in good health after it's dealer visit. :)
