Quiet tires...which ones?

Well, I have spent most of my afternoon (I guess better than working) reading the posts regarding tires, but I did not find one that was strictly about tire noise. I am ready to change tires on my MY 03 Boxster with 18" Turbo Twists, of course performance is the most important aspect but if somebody has some good input on quiet tires it will be appreciated. Love my Kumos. Kumos = quite for daily driving and weekend sporty driving. Wear is fine too!

Tire shack online has a pretty good consumer based rating system that includes noise for all their tires, Consumer reports also had a HP tire roundup, a pdf of which is floating around these forums somewhere.

if u got the cash,Michelin PS2's would be the quietest in my opinion(1st in noise, 2nd in overall) Pirelli P-zero is really sticky & quiet too. I had my kumhos for about 20,000 miles , personally think they get louder after 5000k-10,000k miles<- typical feed back. now I got my NEXEN N3000 :D

I just installed a set of PS2's on my 2003 Boxster S with 18" wheels. They're very very quiet. I put 1,000 miles on them over Thanksgiving weekend.

Yup they have one of the highest noise comfort rating, but $$$- I'm kinda wondering how much those set of Michelin cost u?. Also the gap between the lowest rating & the highest isn't that much anyhow(6.3~6.9 in scale 1~10). So what kind of 18's r u rollin on?

Looking at numbers on a datasheet can be some what inaccurate if the difference between products is just splitting hairs. Saying a product is #10 doesn't mean much if number #10 is still quite. I'm going to stick with my answer of they are just fine and quite tires with the top down and highway speeds.

I know what noisy tires are! I have some all season, snow and LT on my vehicles right now and the Kumos sound like a baby sleeping to me!

I went through the same decision making process and went the Bridgestone A050 route on my 2003S. I had P-Zeros on it and hated them, too noisy and they felt unstable in the corners. I narrowed down the choices either A050s, or PS2s and chose the Bridgestones based on input from the TireRack. The PS2s wear much faster and the majority of my driving is on the street. Longer term wear became the tie breaker and I haven't been disapointed with the choice.

Just got Pirelli PNeros this weeks for my 18" Twists on a MY99 Boxster. So far they are pretty quiet. For the first time I am able to hear the engine note when cruising.

So far so good!

Rhregis, IMHO you are going about this all wrong! You don't need a more quite tire, you most definetly need a louder exhaust! Change your thinking, man! :D

I am currently running PS2's which are very quiet but $$$. My friends car has Bridgestones which are very similar in terms of noise and grip.

I have had flatspots so bad that they were unsafe to use...400 worth of labor mounting, un mounting and remounting make me really less than happy eith them..and when i called their customert service..they pissed me off so bad i am filing a small claims case against them for my labor i lost

I had a blow out Friday and bought the BFGoodrich g-Force Sport because they were pretty cheap and they ranked fairly high and have good wear ratings (important to me as I drive 150 miles a day).

the PS2's are very quiet when new, however, they wear quickly, are spendy and once you hit the wear bars they get progressively noisier.

Plus they are a great tire IMO, I don't care how quiet they are, it's all about grip for me.

I've got the carrera lightweight wheels. The PS2's were about $1,300 including installation, tax, alignment, disposal of the old ones etc.

I installed BF goodrich on my 350Z about 8000miles ago, now they are terrible!

no more BF GOOdrich for me
