When I bought my '00 2.7L it had a third-party alarm on it. After owning the car now for 5 years, I'm interested in removing the alarm (DEI Viper Alarm).

Here's my questions:

does my car come with a factory alarm? if so, what needs to be done to make it operational.

Also, my keys did not have an alarm Fob, so would I need to get those replaced or is that the indication there is no factory alarm.

Thanks in advanced,

Will

If you dont have a door lock button on your FOB then that means your likely have been using the valet key. I think all boxsters come with the factory alarm, You'd have to order a Fob for your specific year boxster and have the dealer program it. Only down fall that i dont like about the factory alarm is that it doesnt honk when you lock or unlock it, only blinkers flash. The only time it'll honk is if your factory alarm is malfuntioning or you left a Door, hood or center arm rest console opened.

When I bought the car, it came with 2 laser cut keys with just plain fob's that has the Porsche emblem on one side and a push button on the other for a embedded light. I also received a third key. The third key had a molded grey-in-color fob that I was told is the valet key.

I actually mute my alarm when I unlock/disarm and lock/arm the car because I'm tired of hearing the loud beep-beep sound. I liek the sound of BMW's and my wife's Sequioa...but I guess I'm asking too much.

If I did go through this would I guess I'm purchasing the fobs and then having them programmed for my integrated alarm system.

Is that right?

Thx,

Will

The 2.7 did not come with the remote/alarm as standard. It was an option on the base Boxster. If you have a passenger side door lock like this then you do not have it.

Also, if you had it your would have the option code 535 on the option sticker.

I was convinced that the factory alarm was only engaged when you press the open/close button on your FOB twice within one second. When the alarm is engaged my car honks. When I only press once, the blinkers flash and no sound unless a zone is open.

I had a zone open after swapping my CDR to Becker Traffic and the car honked everytime I was just closing it.

(No need to switch on alarm all the time here) After applying a sticker to the Becker unit, everything was back to normal.

So for me it's: 1 press: blinking no horn - No alarm, 2 presses: blinking + horn + alarm engaged.

To unlock it's only blinking.

Could that behaviour be programmed in?

TP,

You are dead on. I DO have the passenger side lock. I also verified the option codes and do not have 535 listed. Now I know. I guess I'm sticking with a third-party alarm system.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Koen

For ROW ( Belgium ) Locking

1 x press: blinking - no horn = alarm on

2 x press: blinking - 1 x horn signal = interior detection disabled

1 x press: blinking - 1 x horn signal = something open ( door, etc. ) or radio connected to ground, in your case

1 x press: blinking - 2 x horn signal = alarm system faulty

yep, that is the Fob I have on both keys. Thanks TP for info.

BTW - is it very difficult to add factory alarm or is it worth adding? Or, is it easier to just have a third-party alarm?

Thx,

Will
