Good day all... figured I'd drop a post in this forum to say hello. I'm a Porschephile since youth and currently own two 944's, one NA and one turbo. I just expanded my collection with a 2001 986S however... pick it up Friday morning. White with black interior and top. Lightly optioned but it does have heated seats, PCM, sound package, trip computer, crested seats, and cd changer. It's in overall very good condition with only a couple issues like two funky centercaps, a scratch or two on the interior, and it needs some brakes.

I've looked at a ton of these in the last few months and have found them to have widely ranging maintenance levels, mileage, and overall condition. Some are babied, some not, some have new motors, some not. Makes for very difficult decisions when shopping.

I'm also picking up a hardtop for it the same day from another seller. We really want one for the winter season to fight off the Portland rain.

Anyway, just wanted to say hello as I'll likely be spending a bunch more time here in the future. I have been on AudiWorld and Rennlist for several years, and look forward to hanging out here as well. Of course I'll post some pics as soon as I get the car back.

Welcome Boxster newbie! Might have to pick your brain this summer as I may want to pick up a 944 or 944T for a project.

Now take that credit card and buy the Bentley Manual and the Durametric software...smartest two things you'll every do!

For sure... I'm comfy with doing most maintenance by myself. Otherwise I certainly could not own all these cars.

The Boxster will be driven by my fiancee most of the time, in her capacity as a corporate auditor. It needs brake pads straight away so I'll be doing those soon.

I do have a shop that I trust that works on my Audi, so I have someone to go to when I just need it taken care of immediately. But basic maintenance will be on me. Just another excuse to buy a lift ;)

Brakes don't get much easier then this car. Got my pads, rotors and sensor dirt cheap on ebay. If you don't know already the primary sponser for this site is Sunset Imports, see links at top. They are a Audi/Porsche dealer on the webcoast that sells parts heavily discounted online. Great service and quick shipping.

Sounds like you got a few dollars to spend. Get that software I mentioned for a few hundred dollars. It will solve half your problems and put your questions (that are yet to come) at rest. It does a great job of replicating a Porsche tech2 and the guys who are developing it keep bringing more functionality on line. I pushed them hard for some HVAC system last summer and they got it going ASAP.

OK, I'm sure Sunset is nice to everyone else, but I actually live in Portland where they are located. They don't do deals for local folks, regardless of PCA membership status. They charge full price or insist on charging shipping and all that nonsense. We get the deal one day a year IF we drive across town to go there for 'Customer Appreciation Day'.

Suffice to say, I do absolutely no business now with Sunset, nor will I ever. They are a local monopoly with no motivation to compete for local business. It's funny that they will sell for such 'great' prices to everyone else... but then screw the locals. My maintenance is done by an indy, and if I need parts they come from the indy and not the dealer. WAY cheaper.

I find it hard to believe that if someone bought through their website they would not honor that price! Have you verified that? Would they really cancel in state orders?

As nice as they have always been to me via email and phone I would be very surprised if they had such a policy for local web sales!

Most indies cannot get the specifics, just the basics...they have to go through the dealer/stealer to for unique needs.

For example, I got my hardtop hardware from them. Are you getting the hardware with your top? Many sellers online don't sell the hardware with it or are to clueless (mechanically inclined) to remove it!

Perhaps what you do not realize is that Sunset has little choice for local purchases. There are competing dealers in their local area and if they give too big a discount those dealers complain to PCNA. PCNA then complains to Sunset. When you are part of a manufacturers dealer network you have to play by the manufacturers rules (and Porsche has a ton of them).

The reason people outside of their local area can get a discount is because that is "any body's market" (as defines by Porsche AG).

Hey guys, I didn't mean to badmouth Sunset. They make a lot of people happy.

Loren, they don't have competition. They are the only dealer in a 3 hour radius. I've driven that far to go to a dealer. That's not competition by my definition.

Anyway, no worries, just wanted to share my happiness. Can't wait to have the thing here to drive!

Hallo, I live in Canby just outside of Portland and by most of my parts from Sunset Imports. I asked for a discount and get 10% with my PCA membership card. I like to deal with them since they are friendly and know their stuff. BTW I own a 2003 Boxster S. Love that car.
