I finally figured out how to get the relay pannel down from the footwell in order to try the 996 switch hack for the Boxster Sport Exhaust switch. I don't know why I couldn't find that clasp on the left side of the relay pannel every other time I looked but I found it this time. So anyway, I pulled the 4 prong jumper from relay #23 and fired the car up. First off I want to say for some reason the exhaust sounded totally different at idle, it sounded like I had hoped it would sound when I got the car (and was disappointed at that time). I drove the car to see if there were any nasty side effect to the Boxster that were not present in the 996 and there was only one...but it was good! I can now put the top up or down at speed, I did not need to do the top hack. Other than that the car works the same as it did before...but seriously sounds much louder and more agressive than it had before the hack (I do find that odd). I wonder if the jumper kept the exhaust quiet at a larger range than was previously believed. Anyway if anyone has the Sport Exhaust come OE then this hack is a must!

Not sure what you mean by the tech exhaust. I bought the car with the XLF option code which is the Porsche Sport Exhaust. It comes with the switch.

Not sure how to turn off the parking brake sensor, I have not tried that yet.

OK, A4EP, I've taken a leap of faith (much aided by those great sound files :) ) and ordered one!

I just need to know one thing please and I'm sure this is a daft question. But, if its not wired up (as yours is), then there is no need for your hack is there? What I mean is that the valves will be permanently in the open/loud position - is that correct?

Thanks!

From my understanding they will be in the permenantly on position just like on the 996 PSE. I am going to try recording a few more sound files today, ones from the cabin and ones from different angles and distances from the exhaust pipe itself. I will post the links once I have them done. I am really happy with the sound, it continues to get better but as I have said before the engine is so loud in the new Boxster S that it is sometimes hard to hear the exhaust over the engine note at speed from inside the car, it's defintily loud but maybe not as obnoxiously loud as the GHL...it does not have any renosonance though which is a HUGE plus in my book! I am confident you will like the exhaust.

I am sure it will work out fine - again many thanks for the sound files. :D I am very keen to maintain my car with Porsche products where possible and to be honest, the resonance of the GHL did bother me a little bit. I don't think a car in this class should have resonance..

Sorry to revive this 3 year old topic... but does anyone know the part number for the PSE relay being altered on a 986? I would like to have one in stock before I alter the current one. I would think it would be a different part number from the 996 (which has been listed in other threads).

Thanks!

PS - Sorry for not putting this in part number requests... just noticed it.
