light for front luggage compartment

I have noticed that the light in the front storage compartment (bonnet) of my Boxster does not come on regularly. Is there any dependence to whether or not the doors are open, headlights are on, locks open etc or should it come on all the time whenever the bonnet is open? Is there an override switch or timer?

I've checked te bulb and the fillament is good.

I would suspect the switch is at fault but I cannot find it. I suspect it is in the lock mechanics. Can anyone confirm this?

Other question: when I release the boot and the key is in the ign and on, the computer gives me a boot open warning. Does not do this for the bonnet. Is this normal? I suspect the bonnet adjar and light switch may be the same and both are malfunctioning.

There is a switch in the front latch assembly. That is the likely cause.

Better that it doesn't come on - a fairly common failure is that it doesn't turn off and then runs the battery down.

The hood dash light is dependent on your year boxster. The older ones do not have a hood warning light.

Mine is a 2005. I would be surprised to hear if the front hood does not produce an adjar warning if the rear hood does. Maybe that's because the front hood has a second latch and the rear does not.

If the switch don't light the lamp in the trunk, he don't light the warning in the display.

I seem to have the same problem ... its rather annoying at night when I can't seem to find things in the front trunk.

I've also noticed my front foglight indicator no longer glows green when activated (inside the cockpit on the headlight switch). The rear foglight indicator still glows amber when activated. Strange.

If you want to test the front trunk microswitch, pop open the trunk and try to arm the immobilizer. If it arms without beeping the horn that will tell you if you're front trunk microswitch is stuck in the closed position. If the alarm beeps at you that will tell you to look else where.

yes, thanks, that confirms it. PTEC, just a note if you have this problem, do not hit the front release after the lid is already open (and light is not on) as it will reactivate the latch release which it does not seem to like to do it it thinks it's closed but is really open. This fault will allow us to drive the car with the bonnet unlatched which can be dangerous. My list for the next visit grows longer. Hope the warranty terms are fair.
