Hi,

I am planning on getting new winshield wipers for my '01 986. I tried to get the regular RainX ones at my car wash...but once again...I was told i gotta get the Porsche ones...so my question stands..

What should I get? Does it have to be Porsche specific?

Thanks,

Gus

Any 22" wipers will fit, however the original equipment has the passenger side wiper with a bend in it, the Bosch part number is AS22, alternatively get the double pack from Bosch 582S - this has the straight 22" wiper and the AS wiper in one box (Just a thought perhaps you over there dont use inches - then its 55cm)

Dont have to stick with Bosch either.

I recently replaced mine.

I couldn't find any wipers that fit the Boxster wiper arms, so I just replaced the rubber. There is no need to replace the metal anyway. I bought the two rubber pieces for $5 at PepBoys, and then used the current metal strips that fit in the rubber. Works great, and it only cost $5! :D

In my experience the Bosch ones don't have the same curvature or the number of spring points for the blade to contact the screen as the OEM - and this leads to the well-known squeal time arriving early. The porsche ones are only around £19.99 from a dealer parts dept and don't squeal...worth the money for ear-pain free motoring in the rain!

I have BOSCH ICON blades. They are top of the line wiper blades. They are available from many auto parts store. They were recommended by people from PPBB forum. They work well.

Part numbers are:

422A (Driver)

422B (Passenger)

The passenger side blade is a little on the long side (small gap between tip of blade and glass when the wipers are at rest). But when in action, the wipers look and work just fine.

Maybe a silly question, but which side gets the wiper with the air foil (to hold the wiper down at high speed)? I ordered two sets from Sunset, but the original blades on my '97 do not have this air foil. Thinking about the wiper with the bend in it, I would guess the wiper with the bend goes on the passenger side (US) and the wiper with the air foil goes on the driver side. Can one of you patient gentlemen confirm?

Thanks,

Chris
