I am looking at a 1985 Euro coupe (originally from Germany). It's black with ~60K miles. It's a sunroof car and has been owned by the second owner for 17 years. It hasn't been driven much in a few years (a red flag, IMO).

According to the value guides that I've looked at, a U.S. version of the car is ~$16K-$18K.

It seems to me that the Euro car is worth less. I just don't know how much less.

Any opinions?

Edit: Mileage was 60K. The paint and condition of the car was very nice. It seemed to have some (possibly fake) EPA/DOT modications.

In Europe those cars are more expensive, a 1985 carrera if in good shape is usually over 18K euros (26,4 K$). It has to be very bad one if under 16K$

Unfortunately, she had talked to her mechanic who told her it was worth $24K. He didn't want to buy it but wanted to keep working on it (I guess). The car had every receipt since she bought it (no proof of the fuel line system fix).

It was in excellent shape, but she was unable to explain a few modifications that had been done before she bought it. I thought it was a poor (or fake) EPA/DOT modification. However, the car drove very nicely. It was very tight and the engine seemed very strong. It had a non-original whale tail on it.

Her price was just unreasonable for a RoW car.
