I had a developing fault with my 987 handbrake recently. The button which controls the handbrake ratchet would sometimes fail to pop back out, but usually did so after a while. It has now stuck well inside the handle and nothing I have tried will make it come out. The handbrake works if I pull and hold the lever, but it will not lock on with the ratchet.

Obviously something has broken or come loose in the rachet mechanism, so can anyone offer advice on how to get at it and what the problem is? Thanks in advance.

What I am looking for is some advice on removing the centre consol to get at the handbrake. It is not obvious where the screws and clips holding the consol in place are. Also curious to know if anyone else had this problem. Needless to say it failed just oitside the warranty period.............
