I've searched but didn't find any real comments on using the Kumho SPT or Falken 452's. My new to me 02 C4S currently as the P-zero's which are down to the wear bars and they HOWL like crazy.

I'm probably going to do 1-2 DE's in the car (have a dedicated track car) but mainly spirited street driving. I've had good results in the past with the SPT's on a 95 M3 but no experience with the FALKEN 452's. I realize that with either I'll give up some absolute dry handling versus a Michelin PS/Bridgestone 050.

Would love to hear from anyone who has switched from the top-tier tire to one of these options.

Thanks.

I use Falken 452 for every day driving, they are fine and low cost. I keep separate wheels and tires for track days.

I am on my second set of Kumho SPTs. The price/performance is great. They are 1/3 the cost of the Bridgestone counterpart, and wear twice as well. I bought a new set of SO3s when I purchased the car, and the nylon was showing at 8k miles. My last set of Kumho SPTs lasted around 20k miles, and I have about 14k on this set, and they have about 8mm of tread left on the inside of the rears.

My only complaint about the Kumho's is road noise. They are definitely louder than the Bridgestones, but not to the point of overbearing the exhaust ;)

I have switched out to the 452's on my 98 Boxster under recommendation....awesome looking and the wet and dry handling has been fantastic. I took off my P-Zero's and the difference is very subtle. In my eyes..a very good choice on my part.

smithk,

I replaced my Pirelli Asymmetrico's ( which as you staed were VERY noisy) with the Kuhmo SPT on 02 C4S and O have been very happy with them for the price. Quiet so far ( only have a few K miles on them) and they have been great in the wet as well. I do not track the car, so no data there!!

I'm looking at the Kumho SPT's, but I'm interested in input on rear tire sizes. I have an '02 C2, with 285/30/18 Michelin Pilot Sports. For the type of driving I do, I don't see a big upside to dropping over $1K on 4 new shoes, so I'm looking at value (the Kumhos on my 914 have been great so far).

My question is...what sizes can I go with on the rear wheels? I see 295/30/18--are these on option for stock wheel size?

Thanks for your help.

Not sure if you have stock rims on your C2 or not, however I have a 02 C4S with the 11 inch rims in rear and run the 295-30-18's which are stock on the wide body's. Unless you have 11 inch rims ( with the appropriate spacers) I do not think you can run the 295 widths on your C2 with stock rims.

Well I decided to give the Kumho SPT's a try. They should arrive Monday. I'll try an d let you know my impressions after I get a few miles on them. At less than $600 shipped, I had to give them a try.

Keith,

If you don't mind, please let me know how you like the SPT's once you have a chance to try them out. I not at code red yet in terms of needing to replace my Michelins so I'm trying to get a sense of what else is out there and would appreciate your opinion.

Demosan, I have 8's on the front and 10's on the rear. I think 285 is the widest I can go. Thanks for the note.

I am, however, obviously at code red in terms of my need to learn how to type/spell ("...I not at code red yet...")
