I was just wondering if those that have smartTop or remoteTop installed and put a hardtop on the car during the winter months actually disable those devices when the hardtop is in place. I was thinking that's what I would do in case the button accidentally got pushed. I assume the top motor would break if the hardtop was in place and the button was pressed to raise the top (unless there's some safety mechanism in place).

I was getting ready to intall my hardtop for the season in a couple of weeks so you have me wondering... Well, I just sent an information request to Wilhelmy asking this question. I'll let you know as soon as I hear!

Here's what the SmartTop folks emailed me:

Hello Kurt,

thanks for your email.

Herewith we confirm that the installation of the hardtop will disable the open/close button, as it does from factory.

If you have further questions don't hesitate to contact us again.

Oh, cool, so we don't have to do anything at all.

Thanks for looking into it for us!

(although, I wouldn't want to test to make sure it actually IS disabled :P)
