I just ordered a new top from Topsonline.com. I had put the word up here before, but I'm inviting anyone who wants to come and either help or observe to come on down!

I expect I'll have the top within about a week, but will plan on doing the install on either Saturday the 20th, or the week after, on the 27th.

For those that want to come, I'm in Austin, on the north side (pretty much in Round Rock). I expect this will take all day, so I'll try to get started around 9am. Most people who have done a top replacement themselves have noted it takes about 10 hours... so I'll be at it all day!

If anyone is interested, let me know by emailing me (I don't frequent the boards so much lately) at mqjaustin at yahoo dot com. I'll decide which weekend I want to do the install hopefully by the 13th, so you'll have at least a weeks notice.

Also.. if anyone has a video camera and mad video editing skillz - we could do a DIY video!

I received the top yesterday, but haven't unboxed it yet. I will likely do so soon, and take pictures and write up a 'pre-install review'. The top is a Robbins glass window top. I've heard the instructions Robbins provides are VERY good, so I'll make note of that in my review.

I'm tentatively planning installation on Saturday the 27th, to give it a couple weeks for notice.

Dear FrayAdjacent986,

I wish I could be there, but I live in Maryland... :)

This weekend, I plan to replace the top of my 2002 Boxster with a Robbins I've just got in the mail. I found Mike Focke's DIY instructions that look very straightforward. However, I could not find any instructions on how to remove the headliner. I searched the forum and the whole site very hard, to no avail. I just want to make sure I can do that damage-free, as I will need to put it back on.

Do you have any good tip?

Thanks,

Dan

Dan,

I'll be in the same boat, since my 2001 has the headliner. I don't think it will be too much of a problem to get it out. I'll be detailing it's removal and reinstallation to send to Mike so he can update his page.

I'm going to try to get outside and look at how it's attached in the rear portion. I think the front and middle sections are held into the rails like the rest of the top is.

Also, I'm going to move up the install date. I'm getting anxious to get that top on my car and ditch the old worn out one that's on it now!

FrayAdjacent986,

I saw that, too, as soon as I got the old top removed.

Unfortunately, I had hard time getting those infernal clamping rails removed. The little lips that hold the pins broke and now I am waiting for new parts in the mail...

Later,

Dan

I need to buy a new top for my 01 boxster. How hard are the tops to install? Any tips/advice would be great!

Thanks,

Jaycen:

Check out this complete DIY procedure on replacing the top on Mike Focke's Boxster pages at this link: http://mike.focke.googlepages.com/replacingthetop-adiy

If you run into any obstacles or have any questions about what additional small parts you may need before getting started, just post here and we will figure it out.

Regards, Maurice.
